Agnes Meding

Obituary of Agnes Meding

Agnes Julia Meding, (nee Kanderka) passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2015, at the age of 87. Even though she endured more than 2 ½ years of lung cancer, she was without pain, and remained strong and very active to the end. Agnes was born, at home, on the farm, in Ghost Pine, on March 22, 1928 to parents, Steven Louis Kanderka and Julia Anna Gabara. She attended Sarcee Butte School from grades one to nine then went to St. Mary's Girls High School in Calgary for grade ten. She worked a couple of simple jobs before taking a clerk's job at Swan's Style Shop in Three Hills.

Agnes met Walter Meding at a Sadie Hawkins dance in Three Hills and it was love at first sight! They were married in Trochu on November 30, 1949. Together they farmed the Meding homestead for 39 years, where they raised four children. Agnes and Walter retired from farming in April of 1980 but remained on the farm until October 1988 when they moved into their home in Trochu. The two of them remained in their own home, independently, until Agnes suffered a stroke on May 16th.

Agnes is survived by her loving husband, Walter, of 65 years! Four children: Gerry (Brenda) of Innisfail, Brenda and Barb of Red Deer, Vern (Andrea) of Calgary. Three Grandsons: Trevor (Katie), Brad (Jessica), Austin (Helga). Six precious great grandchildren round out the family: Ethan, Turner, Kassidy, Addison, Madelyn and Lillian. Agnes is also survived by her three siblings: sister Mary Hussin of Chestermere; brother Joe (June) Kanderka of Three Hills and Clarence (Millie), of Bragg Creek. Three Sister-in-laws: Frieda, Maxine, and Lila Meding. She will also be missed by a large extended family and many friends and neighbors.

Thank you to everyone for your kind support: the nursing staff of the Three Hills Hospital, those who visited, phoned, e-mailed, sent cards, baking, and prayers.

Donations in her honor can be made to: the Palliative Care Center in Three Hills Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, The Canadian Cancer Society, and/or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Celebration of life services were held Monday June 15, 2015 at Trochu Community Centre, Trochu, AB with interment in St John Lutheran Cemetery.
